The Mississagi Lighthouse built in 1873 by the department of Transport of Canada to protect and guide ships through the perilous passage known as the Mississagi Strait.
In 1983 The Meldrum Bay Society along with the Manitoulin Tourism Association rallied to save the lighthouse from destruction by securing a lease from the Canadian Coast Guard.
The Manitoulin Tourism Association (since 1952) is a membership driven, non-profit organization who has struggled with limited resources to maintain this lease for all of us to enjoy what is known to us as The Mississagi Lighthouse and Heritage Park.
Over the past 15 years approx $145,000 through federal grants obtained by the MTA has been put into the preservation of the history and its buildings.
This website is owned and operated by the current manager for the MTA, Mary Eadie.
